Xibalba are a band from Southern California that mixes hardcore with thrash and death metal and this is a review of their 2011 album "Madre Mia Gracious Por Los Dias" which was released by Southern Lord Records.
Drums range from slow to midpaced playing with some ocassional fast drumming and blast beats and at times they have a tribal feel to them, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars range from slow to midpaced riffing that combines influences from hardcore, thrash and death metal with some distorted parts being thrown in at times as well as some ocassional fast riffing and there are little to no guitar solos or leads present on this recording, as for the accoustic guitars which are only used briefly at the end of one song they bring a Spanish flavour to the music.
Vocals are a mixture of hardcore screams that also have a heavy death metal influence to them with some samples being thrown in at times, while the lyrics cover hateful and everyday themes, as for the production it has a very dark and heavy sound to it.
In my opinion Xibalba are a very good hardcore band with a death metal edge, and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this band. RECEMMONDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Bright Sun" "Fallen" "We Deserve To Die" and "Cursed". RECEMMONDED BUY.
